Josh Worrell Car Accident: Adelaide Crows Defender Pleads Guilty After Hitting Pedestrian
Adelaide Crows defender Josh Worrell has pleaded guilty to driving without due care following an accident involving a pedestrian in Woodville, Adelaide. The 25-year-old AFL player appeared before Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday, October 30, 2026, where he admitted responsibility for the collision that occurred in July.
The incident happened on July 10 on Port Road in Woodville, on the outskirts of Adelaide. According to details presented in court, Worrell entered a pedestrian crossing after running a red light and struck a 29-year-old male pedestrian. Prosecutors suggested the footballer may have been distracted at the time.
Worrell was initially charged with driving without due care and failing to present to police after an accident. However, during Friday’s hearing, he pleaded guilty to the driving offence, while the second charge was dropped.
What Happened in the Josh Worrell Car Accident?
The court heard that Worrell was travelling to football training when the collision occurred. After striking the pedestrian, he immediately stopped and took steps to help the injured man.
Rather than simply leaving the scene, Worrell reportedly took the pedestrian home so he could collect his belongings before escorting him to hospital. He then remained with the man for approximately three hours to make sure he received appropriate attention.
The two also exchanged phone numbers, allowing Worrell to offer further support following the incident.
According to prosecutors, the defender’s driving had fallen well short of the standards expected of motorists. They also noted that the pedestrian could have suffered considerably more serious injuries.
However, prosecutors acknowledged Worrell’s remorse and the assistance he provided immediately after the collision.
Police previously confirmed that the 29-year-old pedestrian suffered injuries and was transported to hospital by Worrell.
Josh Worrell Expresses Remorse in Court
Worrell’s legal representative described the incident as a momentary lapse in driving judgment. His lawyer told the court that the Adelaide Crows player was extremely embarrassed and remorseful about what happened.
The defence also highlighted his actions after the collision, arguing that he had made considerable efforts to help the injured pedestrian.
Worrell appeared in court wearing a black suit, black tie and white shirt. He spoke only to confirm his guilty plea.
Magistrate Rodney Oates acknowledged the footballer’s response to the incident and indicated that a prison sentence would not be appropriate. He also praised the assistance Worrell provided to the pedestrian.
Nevertheless, the magistrate decided to adjourn the matter to consider the appropriate penalty.
When Will Josh Worrell Return to Court?
The case has been scheduled to return to Adelaide Magistrates Court at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
The next hearing is expected to address the punishment for the driving without due care offence.
For now, Worrell has admitted his responsibility for the collision, but his final penalty remains undecided.
The incident has attracted attention because of the Adelaide Crows defender’s involvement and the circumstances surrounding the pedestrian crossing collision. His actions following the accident were also discussed during the hearing, particularly his decision to personally assist the injured pedestrian and remain with him at the hospital.
